A First Birthday Party for Reid

We celebrated Reid's first birthday this evening with friends and family.

He was super excited to see all his people.

Reid had a great time opening presents with Daddy.

A special birthday cake for a big one year old.

A special cake for all his guests.

Reid took one bite of cake. Then spent the rest of the time either trying to feed it to other people or throw it on the floor.
Two happy parents with their baby, oops, not baby boy.

Happy First Birthday Reid Isaiah!

Photos by Zane

Zane took these pictures while I was busy writing up the previous post. He is quite the little photographer! Here are his thoughts on each photo shot.

She was interesting because she was sticking her tongue out and she was very strange. So she was very honest.

He is cute, adorable and he is turning number 1 today. But he is looking strange in the camera. He is really good and he is not touching the screen.

Reid is cute, adorable. He loves his mommy. He looks so cute and adorable he will explode because he is so cute and adorable.

He is so cute and adorable. So cute and adorable that he is picking on stuff that he really loves to pick on. But he really loves to go and play with other us. To play with me Lucy, Gwen and Andrew.

He is playing with the newspaper. With his new stuff. He is cute and adorable and he is really good that I was taking pictures of him.

The picture of Reid. So Reid was really good. He was looking at the camera. He was looking that way (pointing). He was so cute and adorable. I love him so much. He is my baby brother.

He is chewing on something. But he really loved it but I loved him so much. I love to hug and kiss him too. He is so cute and adorable. I just want more baby brothers. I love them so much.

So, what is so cute about him? Well because he is playing with Gwen. I just love him but I just want to have him forever. And I just love him so much. He is really good but he is fighting with me right now. And that is it.
Straight from the mouth of Zane. Run on sentances and ramblings typed as spoken.

Happy Birthday Reid Isaiah!

Happy birthday to Reid Isaiah! You are such a wonderful little boy and I am so glad to have you as part of my life.

OH MY

Eric and I got a brand new mattress today (YIPPEE!!!) and we needed to clean out our room and move our old mattress set downstairs for a few days until the new one can be used. (Memory foam, needs to expand) So the kids were being very helpful with cleaning up our room and moving our stuff to the bonus room where Eric and I will be sleeping for the next night or two. All this of course was happening at dinner time and the timer went off for something in the oven. Eric suggested that I run and take the stuff out of the oven and then I heard it. As I walked out of the room I heard Andrew say, "This is man work "And it wasn't said in a questioning way. More in a macho egotistical type of way.

Where does he get this stuff? Eric is certainly not the type to tell me that I can't do something if I want to and frankly, I am pretty stinking strong for a girl. So where Andrew has got this notion that some stuff is "man work" I will never know.

He wants man work? I'll show him some man work...

Shorter Than Newborn

Reid will be getting his one year old pictures taken in the next few weeks and he was starting to look like he had a mullet. So out came the clippers today for his first real haircut.

Reid did great although it is going to take me a little bit to get used to his lack of hair. I have never seen him with so little. He was born with more than he has now. But he looks SO big now

Baby Jedi

The Force is strong in this one...

And yes, I do realize that if this was a real light saber his had would be cut off.

Big Kid Gazing

The glorious sun decided to make an appearance today. Zane and Lucy went out to play. Reid and I stayed in to watch. If I had shoes that would have worked for him we would have been out there too!

More Speech Practice

Zane has been doing speech therapy for a few months now. He is doing fantastic and is making great progress in correcting his sound errors.

We have been so happy with our speech therapist Miss Brenda. She is wonderful and has connected so well with Zane. He loves going to see her and works very hard for her when we are there.

Part of Zane's therapy involves exercises for his jaw and tongue. These require the use of lollipops. It has made practice sessions much more exciting!

What an amazing boy my Zane is. He is such a joy to me!

More Time with Rory

We made another trip down to Puyallup to visit Rory. It was a lot of fun and the kids did great with Rory as I expected. Reid was not quite sure what to think about his momma holding another baby though.

Last time we went down Eric was at a men's retreat so he was very excited to hold his new little nephew!

Lucy's Kryptonite

Lucy is seemingly fearless. She will jump off of just about anything. She will climb just about anything. Swimming? Only for the weak. She just throws herself into the water and seems to feel she can will herself to float. No fear at all. Today however, I discovered there is something that terrifies my girl. What is this thing that can strike fear in the heart of the lion?

The Wind

That's right. Simple little gusting wind makes my girl sob in terror and scream in fear. She watched the garbage can get knocked down and it about did her in. She ran inside and sat on my lap sobbing her eyes out. Her heart was pounding for a good 5 minutes before she finally calmed down. It was a bummer she was so scared but the snuggle time was a lot of fun for me.

Not Feeling Good

So these aren't the best pictures to show how horrid Reid is feeling but honestly, who wants to see sick kid looking pictures.

Reid is fighting an ear infection and a sinus infection. Or the baby equivalent of a sinus infection since apparently he doesn't actually have sinuses yet. Whatever.

We have been through 10 days of amoxicillan and still have infection. They changed him over to a sulfa based drug and that has been AWFUL. I gave him two doses and he has been a wreck ever since. I don't know if they are going to decide he has an actual allergy to it or not but Reid will not eat, he will hardly nurse and the diapers... well, they are bad and often. I keep having to change his outfit, if you know what I mean...

I have a call into the doctor. Hopefully they will give me a new prescription because I stopped giving him the one he was taking. Even without their permission. Having a sick little man is NOT my idea of fun!
