Everyone is Swimming!

Well everyone other than Ollie...

Zane was not excited to be starting swimming lessons again. Because he insisted, I did not take a photo of him in the pool. Just this one of him giving me the withering look.

Have I mentioned that the crawling age is my least favorite one for babies at the pool. Guess what? There is water on the ground, lots of it. And they tend to think it is the most fun thing ever to play with.

This results in a very wet soggy baby but when you have sweet cheeks like this one and a smile like him... well you learn to just grin and bear the soggy clothing.

Andrew is plugging away at his competitive readiness class. I think he is getting faster every session we do.

The girls were thrilled to be back in the pool. They both advanced last time around so they were in new classes.

Gwen is tackling Preschool 3 and LOVING it.

And Lucy is busy trying to drown herself in Beginner 2. Seriously. She has absolutely no fear of the water at all.

Reid's First Swimming Lesson

Reid just made the cutoff for this round of swimming lessons. We had taken a break from lessons for a few months but I knew I really wanted Reid to take some lessons before this summer.

Reid has been watching all the big kids get in the water his entire life and finally, finally it was his turn. He was very excited about it. And then it was time for him to get into the water. All of a sudden he was feeling a bit squishy about the whole swim lesson thing. Eric and I tried to convince him to get in the water and it finally took the promise of a cookie after the lesson for him to agree.

Once he was in the water though he never looked back. He was quite chilly and a bit nervous about all the different things to learn but he was a rock star and tried them all.

He sang the songs and did all the moves. He was not quite sure about doing bobs in the water though. He had chattering teeth through most of the class. I was very impressed with how he stayed holding onto the wall though. I was not sure he would be a good listener in that way.

The last thing they do in class is jump in. I was not sure if he would go for it but he did! He didn't even hesitate.

We asked if he wanted to do swimming lessons again and he was very certain that swimming lessons are a lot of fun. Hooray for another fish baby!

Happy 3rd Birthday Reid Isaiah!

Reid's 3rd birthday was celebrated today! He is such a little monkey that choosing Curious George for a party theme was a no-brainer.

A Monkey cake for a Monkey boy.

Friends, cake and ice cream and presents! What more could a boy ask for?

A Kiddo Update

Just a quick update on the kiddos, other than Ollie. Reid is adjusting to being off all of his allergen foods. He is finished with his prescription anti-fungal medications and has moved on to natural anti-fungal supplements. I am so impressed with how easily he is taking his medications. I managed to teach him how to swallow pills in a spoonful of applesauce and it has made medication time much easier and more successful. He has had a significant improvement to his diapers over the last two weeks which is a huge relief. We retested for blood in his stool this week and I should get the results back next week when we go back in for a checkup. It is so amazing how his behavior is worsened by the allergen foods though. He is a mess when he is on them for several hours and then he crashes and sleeps off the rest of his allergic response. We are working through finding him foods to eat. He is very picky and I think he is losing weight but we are managing to keep him from the stuff that makes him ill most of the time. Only one more food to test. He has reacted to all of them so I am just going to take them out for a few months. Hopefully that will be sufficient time to calm his body down.

Miss Gwendalyn has had quite the week with a very nasty boil on her arm. I took her in to the doctor on Tuesday to have it looked at and they gave her antibiotics and instructions on how to care for it. Baby girl is tough though! She didn't even cry or fuss when the doctor was examining it. He was very impressed with how tough she was. I also turned in her paperwork for kindergarten this week when I was at the school for the kids conferences. It is amazing to me that she is going to be in school next year too. I will definitely be off balance with four kids in school and only two at home!

Conferences for the kids went extremely well. Lucy is exactly where she should be for the end of kindergarten with her reading and math and is plugging away in school nicely. She is doing great in class listening and following instructions which is fantastic to hear. This little girl marches to the beat of her own drum and I am just glad that right now that drum is beating in time with school.

Zane's conference was great too. He is above grade level in just about every area. He has passed the time test for math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) for the 4th grade already. He is currently learning his 11's and 12's so he has something new to work on. Reading and writing are equally good for Zane, he is a prolific writer and a very strong reader. His teacher was very complimentary about him academically as well as behaviorally. I am one proud mama that he keeps it all together in school and we only see behavioral challenges at home. If there have to be challenges I would much rather be the one who has to deal with them.

Andrew's conference was amazing as well. He is doing excellent in school, is a rock star at math and his organization is absolutely fantastic. His teacher feels like he is going to go charging into 6th grade and be successful there as well. While we were at conferences we selected classes for 6th grade. Next year he is going to take challenge math and challenge language arts as well as art/technology as an elective. I asked him if he wanted to do choir and he was very adamantly against that idea. No big surprise there!

Besties

They are the such good buddies. I am so amazed at how good of a friendship these two seem to have already. Andrew is easily one of Ollie's favorite people. Eric says Ollie likes Andrew more than him. I don't know about that but they are very close even at this age. So excited to see how it develops as they grow up!

Pinocchio

The girls and I have been planning an outing to see PNB's version of Pinocchio and we had a great time! We made it a total girl day by having lunch at American Girl and then seeing the show. Gwen was thrilled with the ballet and Lucy was a bit less excited but we still had a nice time. The show was only an hour long and it was just the right length. It was a great test before I decide to shell out big money to see the Nutcracker. A few more years before we are ready for that one!

Reid's Allergy Update

I am in the middle of testing Reid for the foods he showed intolerance too. Right in the middle of the day of testing peanuts he ate some pretzels Lucy brought home from school. Within 15 minutes he had lost his mind. Wild behavior, frantic/feral eating, out of control completely. It is very obvious that he has a problem with wheat. I am now terrified to try a different food with him because he was so horrid during his reaction. But he is so sweet and tired all the time now. I think his body is working hard to heal and he just needs extra rest. He fell asleep on my this week too. Not many more months of that occasionally happening. I will love it when it does.

We Have HOPE!

Tonight Reid peed in the potty. Not only did he pee but he told us he needed to and went and did it. This from the kid that has been telling us that he went pee in the potty one time. Which is true. Apparently once was enough for him. I am so thrilled that he decided to do it though. I am not pushing the potty training thing but it would be lovely to not have two in diapers anymore.

And I have been in a flurry of prep for repainting the main floor of the house and downsizing stuff for the church garage sale which is keeping me from documenting ANYTHING. Such is life.

Andrew's Last Concert

Andrew had his final concert of elementary school tonight. He doesn't exactly enjoy singing or being on stage so I really don't anticipate seeing him in this capacity again. Who knows though? Never say never right?

All the siblings enjoy the music concerts. Gwen in particular seemed to love it. She sang along very quietly to the ones she knew. It was very cute. I am sure music is going to be a big piece of her school career. She adores singing.

Even Reid is very interested in the concerts. He runs around and is very rascally before the kids get on stage but as soon as there is something to see he is quite content to just sit and watch the show.

This concerts theme was songs from the 70's (mostly). The kids dressed up in costumes and had a great time singing Car Wash.

They even had cars and towels to help with the song. I even saw Andrew doing some of the motions. That was a miracle in itself!
