Super Smart
It is official! Andrew can now read. My mom got this set of primary readers from her school a few years ago and last night she brought over the first beginner set. Andrew picked one up titled "Mac and Tab" and started reading it. It almost brought a tear to my eye! I love to read and I am so excited for him to be able to read his own books too. This last week we got him his first library card as well. He was so excited about all his grownup-ness. I think he will be a fantastic reader by the time all is said and done. He has always loved books so much I just can't imagine him not liking to read. There are several great kid series out now too that are kinda boy-geared. Maybe I should start reading them now so I will be able to approve of them before he gets to them. Hmmmmmm...... that is an idea!

Curious, when he sounds out words does it help him with speaking the letters he has problems with at all?
Not really. He still can't pronounce the sounds right although I think they are better than when he is just trying to talk. Just like when a "L" sound is at the beginning of a word he says it better than when it is at the end. I think his brain doesn't process it all that way to the end. Or something.
Great Job Andrew! He is very impressive! What books are kids reading now? I am so out of touch with the new series that are out there. Most of them I see at Barnes and Noble seem kinda dark...I love the Beverly Cleary books when I was little, he would probably like the Henry Huggins and Ribsy books in a couple of years. I am so glad you got him his library card, it was a big moment for me! On a side note, what foods work well to transition babies to finger foods? William is a gagger, and I am trying to figure out what he can gum down easily. Any ideas?
Most of the books for boys seem to be kinda dark but there are a couple cute series out. I like the Redwall series in particular. It's not new but it is pretty interesting. All the classics are great though too. I am sure he will enjoy Henry and Ribsy stuff as well. We have read some Junie B. Jones out loud too and he kinda thinks she is fun.
As for Mr. Will, I usually stick to toast (broken up pretty small) and crackers, bits of fruit and veggies cooked super soft and cheese chunks. I know some people have success with tortilla shells but my kids seem to really gag on those. My kids seem to gag and gag until they finally get the chewing thing though. Even without teeth they have to figure chewing out or they will continue to gag. My kids seem to hit it sometime in between 9 and 10 months. For them it is a developmental thing rather than a correct food choice.
Oh yeah, pasta noodles work really well too. Just not spaghetti. I think the gag factor goes up with that 100%. I don't think I have had actual spaghetti noodles in my house for about 4 years. It is fun shapes for us!
Great! I may be dealing with a developmental thing then. I have been giving him things you would think are easily mushable, and the kid keeps gagging, my Mom thinks I should just hold off a while, but he has to learn. I will definetly add the pasta to my menu though! He gagged the other day on a tiny piece of very ripe banana! He's such a gagger! The bad part is he tends to puke pretty easily, which sort of ruins the meal.` Thanks!
Way to go Andrew. Averie just read her first story the other night. Man, pseudo home schooling is not easy. Finding time when she isn't worn out from Yoichin is going to be tricky.
Keep him reading! Then he can read to Zane!
That is awesome about Averie! I couldn't imagine what it would be like to homeschool an already tired kid. Especially since she is gone all day and Andrew is only gone a halfer. Can't wait to see your video on it!
