Biter Bars!

Lucy has been doing so well with the cereal and sitting I thought I would giver her a biter bar to try. I honestly didn't think that she would eat any of it but to my surprise she did. Those things are goopy and messy but I think she felt like she was a big girl. The boys and I ate otter pops and Lucy had her biter bar. Soon she will not need me to do the feeding for her and what a wonderful day that will be. Spoon feeding babies is not my favorite thing!

The goop that results from those should be used by the government as some sort of bomb proof cement for the military! Once it dries it's pretty much permanent. I find spoon feeding tiring too, especially when they eat 3 times a day. When I had my daycare I got all the kids scheduled so I could spoon feed all 3 at once. I just sat in the middle of a circle and used color coded spoons and bowls. Thinking back it must have looked quite funny. They would all squawk with their mouths open like baby birds waiting for more!

Congrats Lucy! Gabe still loves those things. He is now on to eating pretty much everything we eat, which is great except for the mess. He could use a bath after every meal (which of course I don't always have time for). I do go through a lot of washcloths right now. I don't like spoon feeding babies very much, especially in the beginning when it is really watery stuff. That takes forever! I even trained the older two kids to do it and they could feed Gabe pretty well. I guess that's cheating... but they thought it was fun!

It's not cheating, it's good practice for having their own babies! Sam, How often am I supposed to feed him at 5 months? I mean cereal and fruits/veggies. Does he need 3 meals or just 2? Is there a actual rule or can I just do it however many times I actually want to? (Which is once daily)

I usually only feed my kids solids when I think they are hungry after the nursing. So that has varied for each kid. (Zane ate huge amounts from a very young age) I always start with dinner (helps them sleep for me) then move to breakfast and finally lunch. I think by the time I add lunch they are usually mostly on finger foods so that would be like 8 or 9 months. Lucy is still only eating solids at dinner. She seems just fine with only nursing the rest of the time. So go with whatever feels right. If you feed him a bottle in the morning and he still seems starving and grumpy try some cereal and fruit/veggies. Hope that helps!

So cute! i gave caroline one the other day aftre i saw your pic of Lucy. Is it ok if they bite chunks off? What about choking? I am so paranoid. And yes, Caroline did great on the boat. At forst she did NOT like that life jacket but then she was just in bliss as soon as we started the motor up!

If they look like they are choking on the chunks yank the bits out of their mouth. I am sure that all the instructions tell you to not let them work with chunks but I figure how else are they going to learn. It kinda depends on how big the chunks are too. Half the bar? yeah I would take it. Smaller than a dime? I would let them work it out. I am pretty paranoid about them choking at this point too though. I don't give them one unless I KNOW I can monitor the whole consumption.
